Madelyn is now almost 5 days old and doing just wonderful! She is not home with us yet but will be very soon. We expect her to come home probably Wednesday. She is off all IV's now and is basically just being monitored in the NICU to make sure things continue to go as they have for the last couple of days. She was having some problems with her kidneys functioning completely due to her loss of blood passing through the birth canal. The doctors weren't worried but said they would fix themselves and they did! She is peeing regularly and was of course pooping regularly from the start. I've been able to breastfeed for a few times now, whenever I can make it up to the hospital during her feedings. Robert had to go back to work today but we have been spending everyday with her at the hospital, just sitting with her for hours and loving every minute of it! We were able to hold her finally on Friday which was amazing. It's amazing to hold this brand new baby in my arms and to know she is mine forever! We feel so blessed by the gift God has given us and have fallen in love with her from the second she was born. She is the most beautiful and precious baby girl!!! :) To think that Madelyn is COMPLETELY DEPENDENT on Robert and I, is the best feeling in the world! I want to be the best momma I can be to her and I know Robert will be an amazing daddy, he already is! She is my pride and joy and I can't wait to wake up each morning knowing I get to see my daughter:)Oh and I forgot to say this in the last blog but she weighed in at 6 lbs 15 oz. and was 20 inches long. The doctor was right on when he guess the weight to be "7 lbs or just a little under." She is perfect!
The doctors are still trying to account for her lost blood and haven't yet figured out where it all went at birth. They tested my blood to see if I had traces of her blood in mine and the test showed a very tiny bit so that was ruled out. Now doctors are thinking the test was eroneous and it has to be what happened to her blood. Either way, it doesn't matter because there is nothing they would do, it would just give an explanation for the mystery. This morning she will have an ultrasound on her stomach and head to check for a hematoma. Sounds scary although, doctors say it's unlikely they will find anything abnormal. On the other hand, they also said if there is one, there is nothing to be concerned about because that will heal on it's own as well and is actually normal for many newborns. Again, it would just tell us where the blood went. The last and final thing we are waiting on to get Madelyn home with us is to make sure she is eating and going to the bathroom regluarly for a couple of days. GOOD NEWS is she HAS been doing just this now for 2 days now so they should be sending her home with us any day now!!! :) We are just waiting...
